Standards

To pass a JAG Visit, the follow standards must be attained:

  1. NHS Acute General Hospital Endoscopy Units;provides (and teaches) all the common diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

    Must provide evidence of level B or better for the following domains of the Endoscopy Global Rating Scale (GRS):
    • Clinical quality
    • Quality of the patient experience
    • Training
    • Workforce
    Level A for timeliness must be attained. All waiting times for procedures must be within six weeks. Surveillance lists must be up to date.

    The assessment also includes an assessment of the environment, decontamination facilities and processes.
     
  2. NHS Community Units/treatment centres; provides a service for basic diagnostic endoscopy performed on an out-patient basis. Teaching for common diagnostic endoscopic procedures can occur in this setting.

    Must provide evidence of level B or better for the following domains of the community unit/treatment centre version of the GRS:
    • Clinical quality
    • Quality of the patient experience
    • Training (only if training is provided)
    • Workforce
    Level A for timeliness must be attained. All waiting times for procedures must be within six weeks. Surveillance lists must be up to date.

    The assessment also includes an assessment of the environment, decontamination facilities and processes.
     
  3. NHS Office/clinic; provides a service for basic diagnostic endoscopy performed on an out-patient basis. Performed outside of any form of hospital; Teaching for diagnostic procedures does not occur his setting.

    Must provide evidence of level B or better for the following domains of the community unit version of the GRS:
    • Clinical quality
    • Quality of the patient experience
    • Workforce
    Level A for timeliness must be attained. All waiting times for procedures must be within six weeks. Surveillance lists must be up to date.

    The assessment also includes an assessment of the environment, decontamination facilities and processes.
     
  4. Independent Sector; provides a service for all the common diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures privately. Teaching for diagnostic endoscopic procedures does not occur in this setting.

    Must provide evidence of level B or better for the following domains of the community unit version of the GRS:
    • Clinical quality
    • Quality of the patient experience
    • Workforce
    Level A for timeliness must be attained. All waiting times for procedures must be within six weeks. Surveillance lists must be up to date only if an NHS contract is in place.

    The assessment also includes an assessment of the environment, decontamination facilities and processes.
