The e-Portfolio is a log book for trainees to record their endoscopic experience and demonstrate their performance, progression and competencies and has been designed to support the JAG trainee certification process.  The e-Portfolio sits within the JETS website which also provides the JAGs course booking system.

The e-Portfolio allows trainees to log their endoscopic procedures and DOPS assessments electronically and records personal development plans and JAG courses. Trainees can review their development and progress through procedure performance outputs and DOPS progression graphs which can be generated over different time periods and filtered for career totals or individual placements and designed to be used as part of the certification process and to support RITA/ARCPs.

The e-Portfolio can also be accessed by trainers who can monitor the anonymous feedback left by trainees, review a summary of the training they provided and outputs of DOTS (direct observation of training) forms all of which can be used for appraisals. The system supports training episodes by allowing trainers to review a trainee’s development and current learning objectives thereby increasing the efficiency of endoscopy training.

The Training Leads have further functions, including being able to review the performance of independently practicing trainee endoscopists to ensure that they are achieving key performance indicators and if not, direct them towards further support/training. The Training Lead’s summary screen also supports the dedicated training list allocation meetings and monitoring the training received by trainees. Several items of the Training GRS are also supported by the e-Portfolio.

The e-Portfolio will support the ARCP process by allowing Training Programme Directors to review trainee’s e-Portfolios, the quantity of training received in a unit and the anonymous trainer feedback.

When designing the e-Portfolio, the Development Team has focussed on making the system as user-friendly as possible. It has done this by heavily involving trainees in the development process and seeking feedback from users at any opportunity. 

The Development Team aim to continually improve the e-Portfolio on the back of feedback and suggestions received which can be submitted via the orange tab button within the e-Portfolio itself.
