BCSP accreditation

The Screening Assessment and Accreditation (SAAS) facilitates the assessment of endoscopists who apply to work on the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening  (BCSP)

To ensure endoscopists working within the programme are of a consistently high standard, all endoscopists must be accredited. On behalf of Public Health England, JAG provide the quality assurance and administration of BCSP accreditation. Overseeing the governance and responsibility for competence within the bowel screening programme, JAG plays an instrumental role in supporting the roll out of BCSP lists across the country. JAG hosts the BCSP accreditation Panel and supports both the colonoscopy and flexi sigmoidoscopy screeners at assessment and screening centres. From the initial application to taking the MCQ exam, the SAAS website is used throughout all stages of the BCSP assessment process. Beyond housing learning resources for candidates, the SAAS website is used by the JAG team to publish candidates results following their MCQ exam.

Applications are only accepted from candidates who are attached to a Screening Centre and have been approved to go forward with the accreditation process by the National Cancer Screening Programmes Office. Please contact your Screening Centre Director in the first instance.

Full details of the accreditation process and standards can be found in the guidelines in the Downloads tab.
