Data and research
Data is key to our work and, when used properly, we believe it can help services and clinicians to provide excellent patient care. We use the data we collect as part of our various projects to help us make decisions and, where appropriate, share it with services, clinicians and stakeholders for research and service evaluation.
Find out more about publications we have been involved in, how we use data collected and opportunities to access JAG data for your own projects and research.
National Endoscopy Database
The National Endoscopy Database is a useful tool for national research in endoscopy, holding a standardised set of key performance indicators for over 2 million procedures a year done across the UK. On our JETS website, you can view previous papers published using NED data.
UK endoscopy census
JAG regularly conducts a national census of endoscopy services to understand trends in activity, workforce and waiting time targets. These were published in 2019 and 2021. In 2025, the JAG annual report was produced. The report demonstrates achievements across its accreditation, training and data programmes in 2024, and how we are progressing against our 3-year development plan, both to our stakeholders and the wider endoscopy community.
Should you wish to discuss our data and research further, please contact the JAG office team.
