Capsule endoscopy certification standards and criteria
3 June 2020

Consultation open

We would like to invite feedback on a proposed set of standards and criteria for capsule endoscopy certification which can be found here.

Please provide your feedback via email to askjag@rcplondon.ac.uk by Friday 19 June 2020.

Currently JAG provide certification for flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy. Our training committee have identified a number of other procedures which would benefit from a formalised and consistent process and set of standards to use for training in the UK. The first of these is small bowel capsule endoscopy. The utilisation of capsule endoscopy is increasing and as a result there is a need for a training programme focused on ensuring those performing capsule endoscopy are appropriately trained. The standards and criteria are based on the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy training guidance and the available evidence. The pathway and its components have been designed to recognise the multi-professional workforce providing capsule endoscopy reporting and will be applicable to all professional groups.

As with the other JAG certification standards, the process will be supported by our training website. Once introduced, those training in capsule endoscopy will be able to use the eportfolio to log procedures and their training activity.

We will let you know about certification standards for other procedures including EUS and ERCP in the future.
