I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to take on the role of JAG nurse lead.
I have been fortunate to have had many opportunities in my career to contribute to the development of endoscopy services. This has included roles as nurse consultant, clinical endoscopist, national nurse advisor to the NHSBCSP, decontamination advisor to the BSG, and as a lead assessor for JAG.
Although semi-retired, I remain as enthusiastic about endoscopy as I was thirty-three years ago when I started as an endoscopy nurse. Over the years I have seen considerable improvement in the quality and safety of endoscopy services in the UK, guided by JAG as an accreditation tool for quality improvement. The maelstrom enveloping the NHS provides many challenges in maintaining these standards whilst continuing to improve and develop services, keeping patients at the heart of everything we do.
I am looking forward to representing nursing, JAG and to the challenges ahead.
