The Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (JAG) is pleased to
announce the development of a new set of standards designed specifically for
insourcing providers. This marks an important step in ensuring that patients
experience safe, high‑quality endoscopy care regardless of how services are
delivered.
JAG accreditation has long set the benchmark for excellence
across NHS, non‑acute, and independent endoscopy services. However, traditional
accreditation pathways have not fully reflected the unique structures,
operational models, and service delivery arrangements of insourcing providers.
With insourcing now widely used by NHS organisations to increase capacity and
reduce waiting times, the introduction of an insourcing-specific pathway aims
to bring clarity, consistency, and quality assurance to this expanding part of
the sector.
Why are we developing an accreditation pathway for
insourcing providers
Insourcing models operate differently from NHS or
independent services, often involving teams delivering care within host Trusts
while maintaining separate governance structures. As a result, existing
accreditation pathways do not fully capture the distinct quality and safety
components required to assess insourcing provision. A dedicated set of
standards and accreditation pathway will:
- Establish
robust, transparent standards tailored to insourcing arrangements
- Ensure
patients receive consistent, high‑quality care no matter the provider
- Support
providers and Trusts with clear expectations, self‑assessment guidance,
and a structured improvement framework
The pathway will be developed in phases, beginning with an
Expression of Interest stage that will help shape the full standards and
assessment model.
What registering your interest means
By completing the Expression of Interest form, insourcing
providers will:
- Join
the first group to be notified about consultation activities
- Receive
regular updates on pathway development, timelines, and launch
- Have
opportunities to contribute views through surveys, polls, or structured
feedback
Providers will not be expected to submit evidence or
participate in assessments at this stage, the Expression of Interest is simply
an opportunity to stay informed and help shape the future of accreditation for
insourcing.
