The Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (JAG) wishes to appoint a clinical lead for JETS and for JAG, and a JAG training centre and course lead. JAG invites applications from persons interested in taking up an important role for the following:

Clinical lead for JETS: leading and shaping JETS.

The JAG is hosted by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP). The RCP is a patient-centred and clinically led organisation whose core mission is to improve patient care and reduce illness. Our vision is for everyone to have the best possible health and healthcare.

The JAG endoscopy training clinical lead will work in partnership with JAG programme manager (training and data) to ensure the successful delivery of the JETS online system, including development of new certification pathways, ongoing development of the online system, and providing clinical expertise to the JETS office team.

The appointment will be for two years, renewable for a further year by agreement, and will be funded at 0.25 PA per week (or equivalent), reimbursable to the post-holder’s employer. Ideally the successful candidate will take up the role asap. The appointment will be for 2 years with a possible further agreement for one year.

Clinical fellow for JAG: shaping GI endoscopy research

The JAG Clinical Fellow will collaborate with our esteemed research lead, working on both accreditation and training and data projects. Playing a pivotal role in shaping impactful initiatives and utilising our rich datasets to produce exceptional publications.

You will lead the coordination, analysis, and publication of diverse research projects. Your contributions will form the basis for pursuing a higher degree, such as an MD. You will empower our team to make informed decisions backed by comprehensive data analysis and support the development of a talented team of trainees, fostering growth and excellence within the field of gastroenterology.

This appointment will span two years, with the possibility of progression to year two based on satisfactory performance during the first year. A full-time salary is available on the Specialty Registrar (SPR) scale, prorated. We also welcome applicants interested in part-time engagements.


Training centre and course lead: in supporting the further development of quality assurance for JAG approved endoscopy training centres and courses. 

The training centre and course lead will be the training centre and course quality assurance lead and will be responsible for quality assurance of JAG training centres, assessment of annual reviews and supporting the quality assurance of courses. The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination to the JAG approved training centres. They will be responsible for leading on projects relevant to training centres and courses as well as representing training centres to JAG and other relevant stakeholders. 

The appointment will be for two years, renewable for a further year by agreement, and will be funded at 0.5 PA per week (or equivalent), reimbursable to the post-holder’s employer.

For the JETS lead: Interested parties are welcome to have an informal discussion ahead of application with Dr Paul Dunckley (paul.dunckley@nhs.net) who is the previous JETS lead.

For the JAG Clinical Fellow: Interested parties are welcome to have an informal discussion with Professor Matt Rutter, the JAG Chair, before submitting their applications. To arrange a discussion, kindly contact the JAG office.

For the training centre and courses lead: Interested parties are welcome to have an informal discussion ahead of application with the JAG Training Lead, Sarah Mills. These should be arranged via the JAG office.

The time commitment is on average half a day per week and renumeration for this post is in line with the RCP’s clinical release supplement policy.  There will therefore be a reimbursement of a maximum of £7000 per year to the successful candidate’s employer. The RCP will not make any additional reimbursements as part of the agreement related to this role. Appointees can also claim reimbursement of all eligible expenses incurred in carrying out their roles, in line with RCP Accreditation Unit’s policy.

Candidates for this role should be aware that it is the duty of a candidate to obtain advance agreement from his/her employing authority that they will be given adequate time to perform the duties of this role.
