The endoscopy team at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (YYF) underwent their first JAG accreditation assessment this year and have now proudly become one of four accredited public endoscopy units in Wales. They have shared the approaches they took to ensure they met the requirements of JAG accreditation, whilst embracing the opportunity to improve their internal processes simultaneously.
They utilised the Lean Management improvement principles to standardise the unit’s processes and to develop a comprehensive digital platform for their intranet, featuring SOPs, training resources, audit data, and live updates, in replacement of a conventional operational policy. They launched numerous key initiatives, with highlights such as MDT pathway optimization, digital resources expansion and waiting list validation processes to upkeep patient safety and safeguard staff wellbeing. A philosophy of teamwork and involving all stakeholders was upheld throughout the whole accreditation process and contributed to the unit’s success. YYF’s journey is leading example for an initiative approach to accreditation and marks a significant achievement for the Welsh endoscopy community.
A special thank you to Rhodri Davies, Kelly Milford, Matthew Evans, and the endoscopy team at YYF for their amazing work and for sharing their journey to achieving JAG accreditation.
